Technion alumna Kira Radinsky

Two companies with Technion DNA have recently made national headlines. Alumna Kira Radinsky’s SalesPredict was acquired by eBay on July 11th. Using predictive analytic software created in part while studying at the Technion, Radinsky started SalesPredict to help companies identify their most promising potential clients.

Technion Professor Moshe Shoham

On July 13th, Professor Moshe Shoham, head of the D. Dan & Betty Kahn Medical Robotics Laboratory in the Technion Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and co-founder of Mazor Robotics, Ltd., joined colleagues in ringing the NASDAQ Exchange’s closing bell. This commemorated Mazor’s recent unveiling of a transformative robotic platform for spinal surgeries and a new round of funding.

Wall Street Journal Touts New Technion Breakthrough

Studies and anecdotal reports have long suggested a psychosomatic link between positive thinking and a person’s wellbeing. Now, findings by Technion Assistant Professor Asya Rolls shed light on the “placebo effect.” Her research shows that activation of the brain’s feel-good center or “reward system,” stimulates the body’s immune system to operate more effectively and eliminate bacteria more quickly. The discovery could allow scientists to improve the effectiveness of vaccines and other therapies.

Nano Busters!

Ghostbusters may be all the buzz in movie theaters, but in the MedSci community, people are talking about "Nano-Ghosts." Watch this new video to see how a Technion professor is trying to solve chemotherapy's biggest challenge: how to destroy cancerous tumors without harming healthy tissue. Prof. Marcelle Machluf developed a targeted drug delivery system that releases drugs upon reaching the targeted tumor, whereby sparing healthy tissue in its wake. "Nano-Ghosts" are created by emptying the mesenchymal stem cell of its content, leaving only the outer membrane, and then reducing them to nanoscale. These "Nano-Ghosts" are loaded with therapeutics and used to target a variety of cancers.

Juicy New Technology Helps Find
the Perfect Watermelon

Now it’s official. There’s an app for everything! — including the best way to choose a mouthwatering watermelon. After consultations with agricultural engineers and biologists, Technion computer science students Salah Abd Alhalem, Adam Garah and Ayman Sarha’an realized that there’s a correlation between a watermelon’s stripes, color and other external properties, and its taste. The full story of how they parlayed that discovery into a system that rates a watermelon’s tastiness solely by observation is really sweet.

Top Talent Chooses Top School


Only one student in Israel achieved a perfect score on the nation’s psychometric exam this year (equivalent to achieving a perfect 800 on our SAT). His name is Mohammed Zeidan. And guess where he’s heading? This Israeli Arab high school senior has chosen to study electrical engineering at the Technion. Did you know that Israeli Arabs account for 21% of the Technion student population? This is the same proportion as the Arab share of the population (excluding the West Bank and Gaza).
