Technion Launches English-Only MBA Program

The Technion-Israel Institute of Technology has announced that its master's program in business administration will now be taught entirely in English. The switch from Hebrew to English will start at the beginning of the upcoming 2008-2009 academic year.

Based upon the recommendations of an international evaluation committee, the decision was made with the objective of preparing students for the international business world and to encourage more international students to study at the Technion. The move will also positively affect the school's position in international rankings, which give weight to international programs and the presence of foreign students.

Attracting foreign students will provide numerous benefits, including the fostering a real, live simulation of today's international, multicultural and multilingual business world.

"Every major university is either creating or joining worldwide university networks that facilitate student and faculty exchanges and learning," said Professor Boaz Golany, dean of the program. "But such collaboration is only possible if you have a common language. And that language is English."

The switch will encompass all facets of learning: instruction in the classroom, course materials, drills, seminars, slides and all other documents will be in English.

The Technion-Israel Institute of Technology is Israel's leading science and technology university. Home to the country's winners of the Nobel Prize in science, it commands a worldwide reputation for its pioneering work in nanotechnology, computer science, biotechnology, water-resource management, materials engineering, aerospace and medicine. The majority of the founders and managers of Israel's high-tech companies are alumni. Based in New York City, the American Technion Society (ATS) is the leading American organization supporting higher education in Israel, with 22 offices around the country.
