Technion research and the achievements of the American Technion Society generate a stream of news that is regularly covered by the world’s leading news media. Below are the news releases we distributed to U.S. media.

Technion Scientists Develop Advanced Biological Computer

Using only biomolecules (such as DNA and enzymes), scientists at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology have developed and constructed an advanced biological transducer, a computing machine capable of manipulating genetic codes, and using the output as new input for subsequent computations. The breakthrough might someday create new possibilities in biotechnology, including individual gene therapy and cloning. The findings appear today (May 23, 2013) in Chemistry & Biology (Cell Press).

Qualcomm Co-Founder Awarded the Technion Medal

Dr. Irwin Jacobs, Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO Emeritus of Qualcomm, was honored on May 20 with the Technion Medal, the greatest recognition by the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, awarded only every three to five years. He received the medal during a festive event in Haifa, marking 20 years of Qualcomm activities in Israel.

Harvey Prize Awarded to MIT and UC Berkeley Professors

Biology Professor Eric S. Lander of the Eli and Edythe Broad Institute of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University, and Eli Yablonovitch, Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley, were awarded the 2012 Harvey Prize in a ceremony April 30 at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel.

Sea Squirt Helps Solve Century-Old Puzzle

By using state-of-the-art high-resolution transmission electron microscopy to examine crystals found in and on the bodies of small marine organisms called sea squirts, a team of scientists led by the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology has resolved the nearly 100 year-old mystery about the crystal structure of the mineral called vaterite. The findings are published in the current issue (April 26, 2013) of SCIENCE.

Joan and Irwin Jacobs Announce $133-Million Naming Gift for the Technion-Cornell Innovation Institute

The Joan and Irwin Jacobs Technion-Cornell Innovation Institute is a key component of Cornell Tech in New York City; program will offer unique dual master's degrees.

Technion scientists develop first photonic topological insulators to protect transport of light

Researchers at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology have developed and successfully demonstrated a photonic Floquet topological insulator, a new device used to protect the transport of light through a unique, lattice of 'waveguides.' The advancement may play a key role in the photonics industry. A description is published in the current issue of NATURE (11 April 2013).
