About the Technion

"Technion:Back to the Future" (6:15)

"A Tribute to the Tradition of Excellence" (8:22)

Follow the history of the Technion from its inaugural class of 16 engineering students in the 1920’s to its current status as one of the world’s elite technical universities. ATS supporters discuss the Technion’s crucial role in building the Israel of tomorrow.

Shimon Peres Comments on the Technion (0:28)

Israel's UN Ambassador Gabriela Shalev speaks about the importance of the Technion

Israel's UN Ambassador Gabriela Shalev spoke to the ATS National Board of Directors in March 2009.

Security and Anti-Terror

"The Technion:Creating Security in An Insecure World" (6:56)

The world often turns to Israel for the latest defense, anti terror and surveillance technology. But where does Israel turn? The Technion. Using a mathematical algorithm to remove clouds from surveillance imaging, 3-D face recognition, robots that can perform search and rescue operations that humans cannot do. These are just a few examples of security technologies coming out of the Technion.

Develping Security Solutions on a Generic Level (1:44)

The reaction rate of terrorists is so quick that by the time technology is developed to prevent a certain threat, the terrorists have moved on to another tactic. Such is the challenge for the Technion Center for Security Science and Technology. Prof. Avi Marmur advocates for a generic approach to expedite the production of counter-terror technology.

"Technion-Yale Initiative in Homeland Security and Counterterrorism" (7:58)

There is a new kind of war being fought, and there are special challenges out there: mountains of data, enemies hiding among civilians, and the inability to score a decisive victory, among others. Prof. Boaz Golany discusses these challenges, and Daniel Rose, whose foresight and support made the program possible, discusses the goals of the program.

Energy

"The Technion Energy Program" (5:40)

It's not whether or not we are running out of oil. It's when we will run out. It's not whether or not we need to develop alternative energies. It is how quickly we can get them to market.  This is why the Technion has launched the Technion energy program. The TEP will provide a road map to help the Technion become a global leader in energy innovation. Watch the video to find out more, or visit our energy research page.

Medical

"Virtual Reality Device Helps People with Parkinson's/MS Walk" (2:46)

Walking. It is what human beings were designed to do. But for those with Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, or who’ve suffered a stroke, walking requires a tremendous amount of effort. Technion Prof. Yoram Baram has come up with a unique virtual reality device that can help.

"Stem Cells: The Master Keys of Life" (6:31)

Since the late 1990’s the Technion has been on the forefront of stem cell research. Stem cells are the “master keys” because they can be converted into many different kinds of cells, opening many different doors to potential cures and treatments. Beating heart tissue is one of the major stem cell achievements from the Technion.

ATS Projects and Programs

"Imagine a Village" (7:03)

Competition for top graduate students can be fierce. Prospective students look at not just a school’s academics and reputation, but quality of life as well. The Technion has an urgent need for new graduate student dormitories. Learn about the plans for the Graduate Student Village and the unique circumstances facing Israeli students.

"ATS Genesis Circle" (7:00)

Perhaps former ATS president and Genesis Circle member Stephen Laser said it best: “The Genesis Circle is one of the best ways to ensure continuity of excellence here at the Technion in terms of our science, our medicine, and our engineering.” Learn about making the ATS part of your giving legacy.

Nobel Prize

"1st 2B Nobel" (7:43)

Tehnion Profs. Avram Hershko and Aaron Ciechanover were awarded the first-ever Nobel Prize in Science to Israelis. They won the prestigious award in 2004 for their research of the ubiquitin system, the process by which the body marks unwanted proteins, which leads to their demise.

The future of Israel is in high technology, and the future of high technology in Israel is at the Technion.
